A New Dawn
A New Dawn: How we woke up to a different world in the 1950s
Part of the exhibition, "A New Dawn",
in the Exhibition Room
To mark the Diamond Jubilee year of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II this exhibition takes a look back at the 1950s, a decade which heralded great changes in the lives of fishermen and their families as it did for all of society.
This exhibition will look at Scotland’s place in the United Kingdom and the wider world during this time and in particular the changes that were going on in the industry, community and homes of fisherfolk. It features a range of artefacts from the museum collections as well as ones on loan from St Andrews Preservation Trust and local family archives covering birth, marriage, new house and boat building, leisure and entertainment, domestic developments and national news.
The exhibition runs from the 6th of July 2012 to the 14th October 2012. Entry is included in the normal museum admission charge.
