For decades an enigmatic figurehead has been displayed in the Fisheries Museum known as ‘The Fairy Queen’. But where did it come from, and what does it symbolise? In this talk Ellie Hyland shares the findings of her research into The Fairy Queen, a journey which explores the broader history of figureheads, from the people who made them to their legacy in maritime communities.
Our speaker Ellie Hyland is an Art History student at the University of St Andrews. She started volunteering at the Fisheries Museum in 2013, and currently resides in Anstruther. After graduation this summer she hopes to pursue a career in illustration.
