Topping up barrel with brine.
The Museum has a large collection of photographs covering all aspects of the Scottish Fishing Industry, including boats, harbours and communities. The photographs cover all periods from the earliest days of photography in the middle of the 19th century until the present day. They exist in a variety of forms - prints, negatives including glass negatives, slides and digital camera files.
We are gradually digitising the photographs with the aim of making them available online. Initially, only a small number will be available in this way, but we will expand the online collection as quickly as possible. If you are looking for a particular photograph or subject and it is not online, please contact the Museum - we may be able to help. In particular, everything is available in the Library, by appointment.
We are able to supply prints, to order, of most of the photographs for personal use. Digital files can also be supplied to order, on CD or by e-mail. See the price list for ordering information.
We also welcome enquiries about commercial use from authors, publishers, media companies etc. Please contact us regarding terms.
A small selection of photographs is usually available for immediate purchase in the Museum Shop. They are in the form of mounted prints, ready for framing, but we cannot guarantee which ones will be available at any time.
