SCHOOLS ART COMPETITION 2012 - 20/Apr/2012
The Scottish Fisheries Museum invites all children in Fife aged 3 - 14 to take part it’s annual Art Competition!

This year’s theme is “RED, WHITE AND BLUE!”

Who can enter and how do we do it?
Children can enter the competition via their nursery or school.

We have six different categories for ages 3-14 years old. Entries can include any 2D materials such as painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, photography, textiles and so on. Art work is to be on no bigger than A3 sized paper (any colour) and your original artwork should be submitted un-mounted.

Winners and their parents/teachers will be invited to a special prize giving ceremony as part of the Museum’s Open Day on 4th June 2012. All winning entries will be exhibited, along with a selection of other submitted artwork, in the Museum’s Tearoom from 4th June 2012.

Please ask your school or nursery to contact the museum (info@scotfishmuseum.org) if you would like to enter and we will send you an Information Pack. Please read the competition rules and helpful checklist carefully before entering the competition- these include everything you need to know! Advice on how the competition can be integrated with the school curriculum can also be found in the accompanying 'Teacher's Notes' document.

Closing date for all entries: 11th May 2012 at 5pm
Good luck, and have fun making your artwork!

Reaper model donated by grandson of builder - 22/Jan/2012
One hundred and ten years ago, Reaper, the iconic flagship of the Scottish Fisheries Museum fleet in Anstruther, was launched from the yard at Sandhaven owned by William Forbes to begin her long career as a herring drifter. This Thursday, Leslie (Lessie) Forbes, William’s grandson, continued the family tradition by presenting to the Scottish Fisheries Museum and its Boats Club a detailed metre long model of Reaper which he has built in homage to the most famous boat to come from the family yard.
The Museum and the Boats Club are amazed by the generosity of this special gift, which has an especial note as it continues the Museum’s long-standing links with one of Scotland’s most respected boat yards, sadly no longer in operation. In return for this gift Lessie Forbes was made an Honorary Member of both the Scottish Fisheries Museum and the Museum’s Boats Club and presented with a framed certificate by David Corner, Chair of the Museum.
