New Director of Scottish Fisheries Museum Appointed

The Board of the Scottish Fisheries Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Director, Jan Clarke, who takes up the post on 1st December.

Jan Clarke has an exceptional career across heritage and conservation organisations, with a commitment and record of transformational change. She has provided strategic leadership combined with operational expertise in museums and other visitor-facing organisations from Skye to Cornwall.

Jane Ryder Chair of the Board said

“We are delighted to welcome Jan to this unique and much loved museum. The breadth and relevance of her career experience will be invaluable, as we aim for the museum to fully realise its remit and potential. As well as successful fundraising, she has the skills and remit to create new strategic alliances, manage large projects, work with staff and volunteers, and overall provide strategic and focused leadership and direction. Her work has been across a range of organisations but with a focus on rural and coastal communities. This will be particularly appropriate to the Scottish Fisheries Museum which is rooted in its local community, but with a national compass across one of the most iconic industries in Scotland –an industry still of critical importance, culturally, economically and environmentally.”

Jan Clarke said

“I feel honoured to have been appointed as the new Director. I look forward to developing the full potential of the museum and to working towards a vibrant and sustainable future with the Board, staff, and volunteers as well as the local community and all our stakeholders.”

As the current Managing Director Ian Goodyear steps down Jane Ryder added

“On behalf of the Board I want to record my thanks to Ian who has navigated the museum through an extraordinary and turbulent period, as we faced the full impact of COVID and then into post-Covid but still exceptionally challenging times. I thank him for his support to me as Chair and speaking on behalf of all the Board, wish him a very well-earned and enjoyable retirement.”
