Scotland’s Industrial Heritage: The Fishing Industry and the ‘Venus’ Disaster (S1-3)

What can a 19th century fishing disaster in the East Neuk of Fife tell us about the fishing industry at that time?

During this workshop, students will investigate what life was like in fishing communities. They will reflect on the equipment and skills used by fishermen of this period as well as the many dangers of fishing in the 19th century. Through hands-on object investigation and examining written sources and images, students will compile a deeper understanding of the Victorian fishing industry and immerse themselves in the realities of the period.
