In the past, the Scottish Fisheries Museum offered a wooden boat building and restoration traineeship to develop skills for young people willing to deepen their knowledge of traditional boat building.

The course provided a background in traditional wooden boat to keep traditional skills alive as well as maintaining the strong tradition of boat-building in Anstruther.

Thanks to the large Museum collection and co-operation with other bodies, during the traineeship there were many varied learning opportunities such as practical restoration and maintenance work, re-building of boats and focused learning modules and guided tours.
