Using objects from our own collections, plus local finds borrowed from National Museums Scotland and other collections in Fife, the exhibition will provide lots of opportunities for visitors to get hands on with history.

An exhibition combining the paintings of Jim Stormonth with material from the museum’s collections to explore the role of the Royal Navy and the importance of the Firth of Forth during World War I. The exhibition coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Jutland on 31st May – 1st June, the only major naval battle of the conflict.

Changing attitudes to whaling in the 20th century

Special Collections at the University of St Andrews Library is pleased to be putting on an exhibition which will explore changing views on whaling at both North and South Poles. Now we consider commercial whaling to be morally unacceptable, but for two centuries whales were just another commodity to be exploited for their valuable oil, essential for many everyday processes.
